The ACT is a standardized test used for college admissions in the United States. It is currently administered by ACT, a nonprofit organization of the same name. The ACT test covers 4 academic skill areas: English, Mathematics, Reading & Scientific reasoning. It also offers an optional direct writing test.

When to take the ACT test?

  1. Grade level: Most students take the ACT during their junior year (11th grade),
usually in the spring. This allows time to retake the test in the fall of their senior
    year if needed.
  2. College application deadlines: Check the application deadlines for the colleges
you’re applying to and make sure to leave enough time for a retake or submission of
    scores.
  3. Preparation: Take the ACT when you feel prepared. Allow enough time to study and
practice, and ideally, schedule the test so that you can retake it if you want to
    improve your score.
  4. Avoid conflicts: Make sure the test date doesn’t conflict with other important events,
like AP exams, SAT testing, or school finals.

What is the duration of the ACT test?

The ACT test has a total duration of 2 hours and 55 minutes, but with the optional writing
section, the duration extends to 3 hours and 35 minutes. Here’s a breakdown of the test
structure:

Without Writing Section (2 hours 55 minutes)
1. English: 45 minutes (75 questions)
2. Math: 60 minutes (60 questions)
3.Reading: 35 minutes (40 questions)
4.Science: 35 minutes (40 questions)
With Optional Writing Section (3 hours 35 minutes)
5.Writing (Essay): 40 minutes (1 essay)

There are also short breaks between sections, so the entire testing experience can take
